Hi, I’m Melissa Miller.
I am a science writer and communicator working to help science and scientists be better understood. Read my work here: http://melissatruth.com/bylines/
I am also a chemist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. I work in a lab at sea and onshore to analyze seawater and learn about climate change.
Part of scientific training is to observe and report. As an avid user of popular media, I couldn’t help but apply that principle to the TV shows and movies that I watch.
Now, more than ever, it’s important that science and scientists be taken seriously. The way both are represented onscreen goes a long way towards shaping people’s opinions.
While maybe not as cinematic or dramatic as a few known characters racing the clock, it’s important to portray that time and effort go into scientific pursuits.
